Locations of various identification numbers Nr. Meaning 1 Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) * 2 Engine Number 1.8 Petrol Models: Punched horizontally into the centre face of the cylinder block. 2.0 & 2.5 Petrol Models: Vertically stamped into the right side of the cylinder block (seen from the front). Diesel Models: Vertically stamped into the flange between motor housing and gearbox. 3 Gearbox Number On a label attached to either the front or top of the gearbox housing. - Car body number Embossed on a metal plate in the luggage compartment, to the left of the spare wheel well and under the floor panelling. * Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
The VIN (and recommended maximum vehicle weights) are stamped on a plate at the base of the left door pillar and also on the top of the right strut dome inside the engine compartment. In addition, to deter car thieves and assist the police, the vehicle identification number is stamped on a plate visible through the lower left corner of the windscreen.
