Rover 3 1/2 hp TT Motorcycle - Specifications, 1914 Model
Engine
Single vertical cyclinder, 85 mm bore, 88 mm stroke, 499 c.c. capacity, made entirely in our own works.
Ball bearings to crankshaft, the one on pulley side specially large.
Very large flywheels, 8 1/2 in diameter.
Valves very large.
Cylinder easily detachable without removing other parts.
Tappets, special silent pattern, and easily adjusted or removed.
4 1/2 in. ground clearance.
Carburettor and Control
Brown and Barlow carburettor.
The throttle and extra air are both controlled from the handle-bar, and both work inward to advance and outward to retard.
The magneto, also controlled from the handle-bar, works outward to advance.
Ignition
By weather-proof Bosch Magneto, placed behind the engine and driven by adjustable silent chain, the latter covered with aluminium dust-proof case.
Transmission
Rubber V - belt on adjustable pulley.
Standard gear, 4 1/4 to 1, adjustable to as low as 6 1/2 to 1.
Frame
Gives long wheelbase of 52 in.
Very low saddle position.
Made exceptionally strong and suitable for side-car work.
Tyre and Wheels
26 in. x 2 3/8 in.
Dunlop extra heavy tyres on extra strong rims are fitted as standard on 3-speed models.
Petrol and Oil
1 1/2 gallons of petrol and 1 quart of lubricating oil can be carried.
Petrol sufficient for 180 miles, Oil sufficient for 300 miles, solo running.
The specially constructed tank is fitted with large glass-top fillers and supplied with strainers.
Special oil-pump fitted with shut-off valve, which prevents any leakage to the engine.
A pipe is fitted for injecting petrol into the cylinder.
Stands and Carrier
Stands are fitted to back and front wheels. Special spring clips are fitted to the stands.
Large and strong carrier of a special design over the back wheel.
Saddle and Toolbag
Brooks' B170 saddle is fitted, and is only 27 in. from the ground.
Two large pannier bags for tools, etc.
ALL model B saddle may be fitted, without extra charge.
Mudguards
Large mudguards are fitted, with special metal flap in Front, a wide extension over the belt at the back.
The rear guard and top of carrier swing up on removing two thumb screws, faciliating tyre repairs.
Spring Fork
The Druid type spring fork is fitted as standard; with the addition of spring links at top, which take up all the end thrust.
Finish
Best black enamel; tan kblack enamelled, suitable panelled in aluminium and red.
Brakes
Specially strong and easily detachable rim brake on front wheel, operated by hand.
Left (near-side) pedal operates powerful rim brake.
Number plates
Back and front number plates are supplied, of strong section, and firmly attached to the front guard extension and rear of carrier.
Free Engine Clutch
The well-known Triumph type Free Engine Clutch is fitted when required.
Three-Speed gear
The Sturmey-Archer (or Armstrong Triplex Mark VII to order) Three Speed Gear, with direct drive on top.
Ratios of 4-6 to 1, 9 1/3 to 1, and 11 3/4 to 1 according to pulley position.
Silencer
Specially and efficient silencer is fitted, and no cut-out is necessary.
Footboards
Rover patent swinging foot-boards can be fitted to all touring models at an extra cost of £ 1.
Foot-Rests
The usual rubber-footrests are fitted.
Dropped footrests for all tall riders will be supplied to order without extra charge.

The rear guard extends downwards to the front to prevent water dripping on the bottom part of the belt, thus preventing slip.
