The Patent

1902 - 1903

 

The Starley"Eye-Opener" is probably based on patents granted in Great Britain, France and the USA.

The patent specifications are numbered 4418 (UK), 318.842 (FR) and 746.652 (USA). The French patent was granted in 1902, but refers to the British patent, which was only published in 1903. The US patent also dates from 1903.

The principle drawing (Fig. 1) corresponds to the realized motorcycle.
