Specifications of the ROVER 'Light Six' - Model Years 1929 - 1930
Engine
The six cylinders are cast in one block, with detachable cylinder head carrying valves and rocker gear.
The camshaft is in the crankcase, and is driven by silent chain from the crankshaft.
The pistons are made of aluminium alloy and fitted with two rings at the top and a scraper ring at the skirt.
The massive accurately-balanced crankshaft runs in four large main bearings, and a Lanchester vibration damper is provided at the forward end.

Lubrication
Every main bearing and big-end is lubricated under pressure, oil being forced through the hollow crankshaft by a gear-type pump located at the lowest point of the sump, which holds two gallons of oil and thus ensures that only cool, clean oil is circulated.
An A.C. pressure oil filter as well as another filter of the ordinary type are fitted.
Oil consumption (approx.) 1000 - 2000 m.p.g.
Cooling
A water circulation pump and fan are provided, driven by easily-adjustable belt.
Ignition
Coil and battery ignition (Lucas make) is fitted, the distributor being accessibly placed at the forward end of the cylinder head.
Fuel System
The tank is placed at the rear of the chassis, holds 10 gallons, and feeds to the carburetter by vacuum.
Fuel Consumption (approx.) 23-26 m.p.g.
1929 Brochure: A two-way tap is provided on the tank to give warning when the suply is running low.
Electrical Equipment
Lucas 12-volt starting and ligthing set is fitted, the dynamo being driven by adjustable silent chain, and mounted on the near-side of the gearbox.
Transmission
The clutch is of the three-plate cork-insert type, and is kept automatically lubricated from the engine, as also is the gearbox, which provides three speeds and reverse, with central change speed lever.

The 1929 brochure says that only the 3-speed transmission is available.
The 1930 brochure also mentions a 4-speed gearbox as an option

The propeller shaft is enclosed in torque tube, and has a central bearing.
The back axle is of the efficient spiral bevel type.
Brakes
All four wheels have large internal-expanding brakes, operated by rod connections.
The foot brake applies brakes on all four wheels, the hand brake operating the rear wheel brakes only.
Suspension
Semi-elliptic springs are fitted both front and rear, with shock absorbers.
The rear springing is underslung.
